  • The Yup’ik natives had festivals with two or more villages who gathered to celebrate with Ellarpiim Yua (Person of the Universe) thanking Him for all the gifts of harvest and gathering.

Preparation would usually begin after all the major food harvests have been put away.  Neighboring villages would prepare gifts of useful utensils, hunting gear, fish traps, Qayaqs, and dried fish, meat, seal oil and more.  It was as if Halloween, New Years, and Christmas were rolled into one.
