What We Ship and Printed Items From Our Partners:

Premade Masks and Figurines

Masks and figurines are premade and prepared for painting and production for future orders; please allow 1-2 business days for processing, detailing, framing and shipment of single‑item orders. Tracking numbers are provided.

In‑Stock Items

Products available for shipment will display the “Add to Cart” option. These items are processed and shipped with a tracking number.

Printed Products

The "Add to Cart" will appear for individual custom-made processing and printing. All printed artwork, apparel, and accessories are drop‑shipped directly from our printing partners located within the United States. Processing and shipping times may vary based on the production schedule of each partner facility.

Internationally Produced Items

Each item produced outside the United States is clearly noted within its product description. Our select footwear, lightweight windbreakers, certain shorts, pajamas, and umbrellas are manufactured overseas to maintain affordable costs. You will notice price differences between similar U.S.‑made products and those produced in China. Transit times may differ from U.S.‑based items, but processing and fulfillment remain smooth thanks to the dependable quality of our overseas partners.

U.S.‑shipped items usually arrive in 11-15 business days to Alaska and 8-10 business days to the lower 48, with some orders arriving sooner. Weather and other unforeseen conditions may extend delivery times.

China‑shipped items usually arrive in 16–21 business days to Alaska, and 10–15 business days to the lower 48, with some orders arriving sooner. Weather and other unforeseen conditions may extend delivery times.

Order Processing

We process orders in the order they arrive, and you’ll receive tracking details the moment your shipment is released—whether from our production partners or directly from the Atsaq Art studio.

Multiple‑Item Orders

Orders with items from different production sources may arrive in separate shipments. For framed artwork from our studio, we work to complete and ship the full order together whenever possible.

5. SHIPPING AND HANDLING

8. ONE-OF-A-KIND COMMISSIONS

Discount Ineligible

Because these works are original, individually created pieces that will never be reproduced, one‑of‑a‑Kind commissions are not eligible for discounts. Their unique nature and singular creation process place them outside all standard discount programs.

Developing Your Theme

Each commission begins with a conversation to learn your story, ideas, or themes—such as fish camp, family, summer, birds, boats, or traditional activities.

During this interview, we identify key themes and imagery that will guide the design.

You will receive draft illustrations with options for your review and approval. These drafts help determine the price range and ensure the design reflects your vision. All characters used in Atsaq.Art commissions are based on original templates developed by us and arranged to create a flowing, meaningful composition.

Production Process

Once you approve the draft, production begins. You will receive progress updates and photos throughout the process.

Each One‑of‑a‑Kind piece requires significant time and attention, including:

  • Detailed design and layout

  • Sizing and proportion adjustments

  • Flow and movement of characters

  • Color coordination

  • Overall artistic impression and originality

These steps ensure that every commissioned piece is truly unique.

Time & Cost Factors

Pricing is determined by several elements, including:

  • Time and labor required

  • Frame size and construction

  • Complexity of the design

  • Number of characters and carvings

  • Detail level of each figure

  • Natural materials used (see mixed media materials below)

  • Custom frame materials (e.g., lumber, canvas overlay, plywood backboard)

  • Additional figurines or elements surrounding each mask follow our signature Atsaq.Art style.

Mixed Media Materials

Each piece may incorporate a blend of traditional and contemporary materials to achieve the best artistic effect.

Materials may include:

  • Driftwood

  • Dentalium shells

  • Seal or walrus whiskers

  • Empty crab shell

  • Porcupine quills

  • Clam shells

  • Beads and sand

  • Feathers (goose, ptarmigan, guinea hen, turkey)

Paints may include acrylic, watercolor, ink, natural iron, and traditional red or blue copper pigments. Natural colors are often mixed with acrylic binders to enhance pigmentation and durability.

9. LEGAL COMPLIANCE

All natural materials are obtained through legal Alaska Native subsistence harvesting, following:

  • U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service Harvest Regulations

  • State of Alaska Subsistence Harvest Regulations

  • Migratory Bird Treaty Act (1918 & 2017 amendments)

Allowable Materials

  • Feathers naturally found along the Bering Sea coast or Yukon–Kuskokwim Delta

  • Feathers obtained during legal subsistence harvests

  • Ptarmigan and grouse feathers

  • Prohibited Materials

  • Eagle, Raven, and Snowy Owl feathers

  • Ceremonial permits may be obtained through USFWS

Authenticity & Ethical Standards

Atsaq Art complies with the Indian Arts and Crafts Act (IACA) of 1990 (P.L. 101‑644), a federal truth‑in‑advertising law that prohibits the misrepresentation of American Indian and Alaska Native art and craft products within the United States. We also follow the standards of the Alaska Silver Hand Program, an official initiative of the Alaska State Council on the Arts (ASCA) that authenticates and promotes original Alaska Native artwork and protects both artists and consumers from fraudulent or misrepresented products.

Authentic Atsaq Art

All artwork sold through Atsaq.Art is created by Atsaq John Oscar or a designated apprentice or employee, a recognized Alaska Native Yup’ik artist. Purchasing directly from Atsaq.Art or from reputable, verified dealers ensures that each piece is authentic, ethically sourced, and compliant with federal and state regulations.

Avoiding Counterfeit Art

To help protect yourself and support genuine Alaska Native artists, buyers are encouraged to:

  • Look for the Silver Hand symbol, which certifies authentic Alaska Native artwork

  • Request written proof of authenticity when purchasing from third‑party sellers

  • Be cautious of unusually low prices, which may indicate counterfeit or misrepresented items

Migratory Bird Treaty Act (MBTA) – Alaska Native Exemption

A federal regulation adopted in 2017 provides a specific exemption under the Migratory Bird Treaty Act (MBTA) that allows Alaska Natives to create and sell authentic handicrafts made with legally harvested, non‑edible parts of certain migratory bird species. This exemption supports cultural continuity, traditional subsistence practices, and the economic needs of Alaska Native artisans.

Key Requirements

  • Alaska Natives Only This exemption applies exclusively to Alaska Native artisans who are enrolled members of federally recognized Alaska Native tribes.

  • Approved Species Only 27 designated migratory bird species may be used. These species were selected to ensure compliance with conservation standards and international treaty obligations.

  • Legally Harvested for Food Birds must be taken legally during subsistence hunting seasons and harvested primarily for food. Birds may not be taken solely for their feathers or parts.

  • Non‑Wasteful Use All edible meat must be retained for human consumption. Only non‑edible parts may be used in handicrafts.

  • Sales Within the United States Items made under this exemption may be sold only within the United States, including its territories.

Proof of Authenticity

 Handicrafts must include either:

  • A U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service (FWS) certification form, or

  • The Alaska Silver Hand insignia, verifying the item as authentic Alaska Native artwork.

  • Handmade, Not Mass‑Produced

  • All items must be handcrafted. Limited use of tools is allowed, but mass production or factory‑style manufacturing is prohibited.
