Raven Finds Light

All Native groups of Alaska had stories relating to the Raven. Children's stories of how the Raven made his creations. He had the clever way tricking other animals and was also tricked himself. Stories of how man grew from a pea pod. Raven was also a selfish bird and even thought he was the smartest in the world, until he came upon an old woman in one of the stories.

I have this desire to bring life to my work, by enabling them to interact with the owners and the general public. Just as these eyes are looking at you in every angle. After all, it's just a little magic mask.

Raven was said to have white feathers before he found light. There was darkness upon the earth with no light except the oil lamps that lit their dwellings. One day, he tells everyone that he is going to look for light, so everyone will be able to see. He looked all over the land for light with no luck. He decides to go into the heavens and searched. For many days he never came back. Then one day he came back so happy, all sizzled, sooty and black. Raven shouted with glee, "I found the light."

The light he found was the sun, the milky way is the trail he left behind from

his snowshoes.
