Drumbeat III-3D A captivating fusion of motion, meaning, and ancestral artistry. This award-winning piece features a mesmerizing mask with animated eyes—an homage to salmon, set atop a miniature seal intestine drum that emits a delicate, playful sound. The mask pulses with life: red hues flare like spawning waters, while halibut and seal glide around its form, and a single guinea hen feather dances in the air.

What makes it truly magical? The mask watches from every angle, infusing any space with dynamic presence and quiet power. Ideal for conventions, retirements, and ceremonial gifting, Drumbeat III-3D is more than a sculpture—it’s a celebration of cultural depth and artistic brilliance.

  • When it comes to recycling, our ancestors were true pioneers. They honored the animals that provided for them by using every part, ensuring nothing went to waste. In our harsh environment, they even transformed intestines into raincoats. I had the privilege of wearing one crafted by my mother's hands. We deeply respect the animals for their sacrifice, allowing us to share our creator's blessings with those in need.

As a child, being up close to the performance was a beautiful and thrilling experience. You could literally feel the drumbeats and the wind created by the dancers’ fans. Everyone moved in unison to the rhythm of the drum, guided by the conductor’s voice, which led the singers into the next verse. The conductor, holding his dance stick adorned with beautiful figurines, kept perfect rhythm.

I could hear “Apasugaq” Augustine Heavy leading the drumming, singing, and dancing. His strong voice, half-singing and half-talking, rose above everyone, reminiscent of blues or rock and roll. The entire group moved vigorously as one.
