Northern Lights 3D
The Alaska Natives had captivating stories about the northern lights that always sparked everyone’s imagination. Waves of streaking light would descend to earth, and some claimed to hear soft whistling sounds as they moved across the night sky. Others likened the sound to ice crystals rubbing against each other when ice is moving.
The aurora displayed a colorful array of reds, purples, greenish-yellows, blues, and whites. Parents would warn children to go home, or the lights might grab them and never return. When the lights turned red, it was believed to signify impending war or a great negative event on the horizon. There were also tales of sky people playing kick-the-ball with a skull. The whistling and crackling noises accompanying the aurora were said to be the voices of spirits trying to communicate. It was advised to always respond in a whispering voice.
