Heartbeat – Limited Edition - Born from pain, shaped by resilience. Only one remains.

In March 2020, after a rain-snow cycle glazed the earth in ice, I took a careless ride on my fat bike—and paid the price. A fall shattered my left shoulder in three places. Now, twelve screws and a titanium plate mark the moment my body became part machine. Every time I pass through security, I’m reminded: healing leaves its own kind of signature.

This piece is a tribute to that journey. For every heartbeat, there is hope. The concentric rings echo the pulse of life—the rhythm of a drum, the vibration of survival. The beads symbolize eggs: the origin of all living beings, human and creature alike. Porcupine quills pierce into the central mask, which bears natural cracks and breaks. Yet from this damage, the spirit within rises.

Two companion masks flank the center—guardians, guides, or whispering elders. As you move side to side, all three sets of eyes follow you, reminding you: you are seen. You are held. You are healing.
